Pooler Public Records Open for Inspection

Georgia law favors access to records prepared, maintained, or received by a public agency, including existing electronic data. Access still depends on the record and its custodian. Pooler City Hall holds council, ethics, administrative, permit, business-registration, and police-request files. Chatham County offices in Savannah hold most permanent name-bearing records for Pooler. State systems supply wider deed, case, license, corporation, custody, registry, and archival indexes.

Adoption and juvenile files, sealed matters, protected motor-vehicle data, confidential vital details, account numbers, and protected addresses are not made open merely because another record is public. An agency should redact exempt fields and release the rest when the records can be separated.

Note: A portal result is an index lead, while a certified copy comes from the office legally responsible for the underlying record.

Pooler Deed Records by Name

The Chatham County Clerk's Real Estate Division records deeds, liens, plats, UCC filings, military discharges, trade names, and partnerships. The clerk says recorded documents are scanned, but no reliable earliest web year is published. The statewide GSCCCA Real Estate search is the online starting point. Chatham remains the legal custodian even though the search platform is statewide.

Name search, Book/Page, PT-61, lien, plat, UCC, and notary modes can lead to different records. Premium modes include added instrument, address, daily, and map options. If a name search misses, switch party roles, try spelling variants, or use a Book/Page citation from another deed. Legal descriptions and assessor parcel IDs can also bridge a mismatch.

Older Pooler Records Beyond the Web

The Garden City Records Center is the strongest offline fallback for Pooler land and court research. At 4225 Augusta Road, Suite C, Garden City, it provides older deed books, plats, maps, microfilm, and civil, criminal, and domestic files. Newer court and real-estate terminals, scanners, and printers are also available. Older physical files require an appointment.

Current filings and copies remain available through the Real Estate Division at the Coleman Courthouse, 133 Montgomery Street, Room 304, Savannah. A satellite copy and filing location operates at 1117 Eisenhower Drive. Call 912-434-8970 or 912-434-8920, option 3. Mail can be sent to PO Box 10227, Savannah, GA 31412. Georgia Archives county microfilm is another route for older land, tax, court, and probate material.

The collection search can uncover Chatham material from long before Pooler incorporated, but each collection has its own date span and access terms.

Note: Pooler became a city in 1907, so earlier residents may appear under Chatham, Savannah-area, land, tax, or railroad records.

Pooler Property and GIS Records

The Chatham Board of Assessors connects owner names with parcel IDs, property addresses, values, characteristics, assessment notices, and value history. Its office is at 222 West Oglethorpe Avenue, Suite 113, Savannah, open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; call 912-652-7271. The SAGIS map adds parcel geometry and address points. These are distinct records, not substitutes for a recorded deed.

SAGIS accepts a property address, owner, parcel ID number, or a drawn area. Its address guidance says to omit a street suffix and include a direction when needed. A building or unit address point can differ from the assessor's Property Address for the parcel polygon. That local quirk explains many failed Pooler address searches. Chatham GIS reported 2,356 tax-year-2024 map edits, including 2,024 new parcels. That level of change makes current assessor and map records important in fast-growing Pooler. Archived cards, permit indexes, and earlier deed books still matter when the current screen does not answer a dated question.

Pooler Court Records and Dockets

Pooler Municipal Court handles city ordinance and traffic matters, but research found no official public party-name portal for that court. Use the city administrative-record form or contact the court. Chatham's unified court site covers Superior, State, Magistrate, Probate, Juvenile, and Recorder's courts. Its proceeding view accepts a date and separates criminal, civil, and Recorder's matters.

Superior Court documents use a registered county CMS, while re:SearchGA is a statewide supplement. A public result may display a case number, case style or parties, filing type and date, hearings, and links to filed documents when available. The filing clerk keeps the official file. Seals, redactions, registration, and court participation affect what can be viewed or bought.

For estates, wills, guardianships, and marriages, Chatham Probate Court's Record Room accepts research by mail or appointment. Staff research costs $10. An uncertified copy is $1 per page; a certified one-page copy is $10 with additional pages at $1 each. Court fee schedules can differ from ordinary administrative-copy charges.

Pooler Vital Record Access Rules

Pooler has no city vital-record archive. Birth and death certificates come through Georgia DPH or an eligible local office. Chatham Probate Court handles marriage licenses outside the state's limited verification span, and the Superior Court that granted a divorce holds the decree. Use the place of birth, death, license, or decree rather than a person's current address to choose the custodian.

The method matters: eligible mail requests for death certificates state eight to ten weeks, while the state describes different online, expedited, and counter time frames.

DPH birth coverage begins in January 1919. Birth requests require an eligible relationship or legal authority, photo ID, and supporting proof. Birth and death searches cost $25 for the first certificate and $5 for each added copy in the same order. DPH marriage and divorce verification covers June 1952 through August 1996. A marriage search is $10, with $5 same-order copies, while the underlying county record may require a separate Probate request.

Georgia does not publish a simple age after which all modern certificates become open. O.C.G.A. §31-10-26 and DPH rules control eligibility. Historical records transferred to archives follow collection-specific rules.

Pooler Custody and Registry Records

The Chatham Sheriff publishes recent 24-hour and 72-hour booking views, not a lasting conviction history. The Georgia Department of Corrections offers a free adult-offender query by name, ID or case number, age, and other identifying facts. GDC recommends trying the first four surname letters and selecting all offenders when a full name misses. Completed First Offender Act records are not published.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation registry is the official entry point for statutory registry data.

The registry warns that source agencies supply the data and that records change, so published facts should be checked without inferring conduct beyond the record.

Each channel answers a different question. A sheriff booking concerns recent county custody. GDC concerns state correctional records. The registry is governed by O.C.G.A. §42-1-12. Court clerks hold charges and dispositions, and police departments handle incident reports subject to investigative and privacy exemptions.

Note: A booking does not prove conviction, and absence from a state prison search does not show that no court case exists.

Pooler Public Records Custodians

The right office depends on which government created the file. Pooler City Hall handles municipal administration and city police requests. County clerks and the assessor handle most permanent land, court, estate, and property material. Calling the custodian can resolve portal gaps before a written request is filed.

City Hall is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The listed county land and assessor offices are open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Confirm an appointment for older physical files or Probate research before travel.

Pooler Campaign Records Across Four Eras

Pooler's municipal campaign-finance access has an unusually clear timeline. The city elections page directs 2026 and later filings to PeachFile. Records from 2022 through 2025 use Efile, while Legacy covers 2005 through 2021. Older material is available through an open-records request, subject to what the city retains.

A missing name in one system may reflect the filing year, not the absence of a filing. Establish the election and reporting period first. Then use the matching platform. For an earlier record, ask for an existing filing, index, or retention-series item rather than asking the city to create a candidate history.

Note: Planning applications also moved online in 2024, but that submission system is not documented as a public permit-name search.

Confidential Fields in Pooler Records

Public access does not make every field public. Georgia agencies may withhold or redact material under O.C.G.A. §50-18-72 and other specific laws. Juvenile and adoption records, sealed cases, confidential vital data, Social Security and account numbers, and some investigative material have limits. The federal Driver's Privacy Protection Act restricts disclosure and use of personal motor-vehicle information.

Georgia's Safe at Home program began operating July 1, 2026 under O.C.G.A. §50-18-150. Eligible survivors enroll through a certified Advocate Assistant and receive a substitute address for most state and local public records, mail forwarding, and confidential voter residence treatment. A protected residence must stay suppressed. It should never be reconstructed by joining parcel, voter, court, or license data.

Pooler Record Copies and Fees

No single fee applies to all Pooler records. Under the Georgia Open Records Act, letter- or legal-size administrative copies may cost no more than $0.10 per page. An agency may charge the rate of its lowest-paid qualified employee for search, retrieval, and redaction time after the first 15 minutes. It must provide a written estimate when expected cost exceeds $25, and prepayment generally applies above $500.

Court and certificate schedules can be different. Probate charges $10 for staff research and has separate plain, certified, and exemplified copy rates. DPH's $25 first birth or death certificate is a statutory search and certification service, not an ordinary ten-cent page. GSCCCA account and premium modes also should not be described as free merely because a basic index can be reached online.

Inspection can reduce copy costs. For a large electronic set, ask for the most economical existing format. Narrow the years and fields before accepting a large estimate, and separate a request for index data from a request for document images.

File a Pooler Records Request

The Georgia Open Records Act, O.C.G.A. §§50-18-70 through 50-18-77, lets any person request an existing agency record without a Georgia residency requirement. Within three business days, the custodian must produce the available record or send a response stating expected availability, estimated cost, and the precise legal basis for withheld material. That is a response deadline, not a promise that every production finishes within three days.

1. Identify the custodian. Use Pooler's city portal for municipal files and the matching Chatham clerk, assessor, court, or state agency for other records.
2. Check the official index. Record useful names, dates, parcel IDs, case numbers, instrument references, and any failed search.
3. Describe an existing record. Give a narrow date span, names or address, record type, department, and preferred electronic format.
4. Review the response. Ask for the cited exemption and all segregable, nonexempt portions if material is withheld.
5. Narrow high costs or seek help. Reduce fields or years, ask to inspect, or use the Georgia Attorney General's Open Government Mediation Program.

Pooler uses its Records Request Portal. Chatham's JustFOIA route begins with “New Request,” followed by “County Open Records Request.” Portal controls collect requester contact details, a record description, optional attachments, delivery or communication preferences, and submission. The agency need not answer investigative questions or create a new report, summary, or compilation under O.C.G.A. §50-18-71(j).
